Translation Vs. Machine Translation!
The present era is of globalization and technology. Nations of the world are coming closer to each other due to the effect of globalization. Each of the nations of the world wants to spread their business in other nation. They are looking the other nation as a big consumer market, where they can sail their products. They want to make their reach to the smallest village of any nation, which demands the knowledge of the national, regional and local languages of a particular nation. It is quite impossible to acquire the knowledge of the national, regional and local languages of a particular nation. It is quite impossible to acquire the knowledge of all existing languages of the world. So, need of translation services and translators is emerged. Now, it become a highly demandable services and to cater the increasing need of translation services machine translation came into existence. It translates faster than human. So, it became helpful. Rapid innovation in the area of machine translation makes it more useful. Its popularity made the situation a bit severe and service provider of the area are worried, whether it will replace the translators in coming future.
I, with my own experiences as translator would like to say that machine translation is not competent enough to replace translators who translate manually, because it works through artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence can never act like natural intelligence. It means artificial intelligence is not able to compete with natural intelligence. So, Where ‘still plant’ should be written as ‘इस्पात/स्टील का कारखाना’ and where it should be written as ‘लोहे का पौधा’ couldn’t be decided by machine translation. It requires manual translation. So, not to worry! Machine translation can help translators but can not replace them. It is an assistive technology not a substitute of translator.
